Creative Slingers of Ink (CSI) took shape when founder Mandy Jo Squires asked a simple question: “Can we host a pop-up book signing here?”, followed by "Can I bring friends?" From that first signing at Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea in Novi, Michigan, CSI grew into a creative hub for indie authors. With the encouragement of the café’s owner, Karen, and the support of local writers, founder Mandy Jo Squires began cultivating something rare — a structured, down-to-earth community where writers connect, grow, and get seen.

As an indie author and tech-savvy advocate, Mandy saw the need for something more than a traditional writing group. CSI was designed to offer real structure, consistent support, and opportunities that go beyond social media engagement. From writing sessions and creative challenges to public events and author features, CSI helps writers move from isolation to visibility — all within a welcoming grassroots community.

Now headquartered in Greer, South Carolina, CSI has a strong and growing base across the Upstate, while also having its reach into Michigan, Kentucky, and beyond. With both in person events and a virtual community, CSI welcomes writers from all backgrounds and locations who are ready to find their people — and the tools to grow.
